Keep your eyes on your own paper. Remember when your elementary teachers used to say that? Sage wisdom it was, and not just for taking tests.
Keep your eyes on your own paper in life too. No sneaking glimpses of what your neighbor is up to.
Every single human being on this earth walks a unique and special journey. Each of us has our own distinct path. Kind of amazing when you consider how many of us there are.
Which should make it obvious that comparing oneself to anyone else is futile and can be downright self-destructive, yet it seems that comparing ourselves to others is part of the human condition.
Stop comparing. Any comparison between any two people is almost silly, because we haven’t walked in the other person’s shoes. Even those we are close to and may have lived with for years, like spouses or partners, even they have not walked in our shoes. The most they have done is walked by our side.
Your life story should be unique. And aside from things immoral or illegal, you owe no one an explanation for how you live your life.
Because each of our stories is so unique, it makes our needs in life unique as well. Sometimes this is difficult to accept, because we see how our family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers are living their lives. And we also fear their judgment.
But no one knows you like you do, and to live an awesome life you need to fulfill your heart and soul, not your neighbor’s.
So keep your eyes on your own paper and stop measuring yourself by someone else’s standards. Honor you and your needs. It’s a surefire way to start to be awesome!
