This is the second in a series about abundance. We recently talked about abundance and what it really means.
Now let’s take a look at thoughts, concepts, and beliefs that might be blocking our abundance.
Most of us have limiting beliefs, things we tell ourselves on a regular basis that aren’t even likely to be true. Studies have shown that the mind believes what we tell it, even if it’s not a true statement. Even if it defies logic. So you can see why these limiting beliefs can be downright self-defeating.
Here are some of the limiting beliefs that I’ve worked on:
- I’m always broke/I’m broke.
- I’ll never get ahead financially.
- Every time I get ahead another thing goes wrong.
- But what about all of the poor people in this world? Don’t they deserve more too?
You can see if these are the things I’m saying – the things that my mind then actually believes – how it can be defeating and a form of self-sabotage to even allow these thoughts or comments.
But most of us say these kinds of things all the time! What limiting beliefs are you perpetuating in your life? And how do we begin to release these blocks?
Here are 5 steps to take to break down your abundance blocks.
- Write down a list of your most frequently practiced limiting beliefs.
- Catch yourself saying them, either aloud or in your head and stop. If your mind is persistent, literally say “STOP!” aloud. It has proven to be helpful in eliminating repetitive mental patterns.
- Be mindful of the words you choose. So often we just say these things, without even thinking.
- Stop telling stories that support the belief. For example, there may be someone with whom you will consistently discuss the poor state of the economy or the high cost of living, just because those are the only things you have in common. Take note, and stop having those conversations. If it’s someone you care about and want to stay in touch with, find another topic for discussion. It’s not always easy, because it’s your habit with them, but you can make this change.
- Create a positive statement to contrast your limiting belief and say it to yourself as a mantra. For example, to counter “I’ll never get ahead financially” say “I am doing my best to support myself financially.”
But saying a mantra alone isn’t enough to create abundance. It takes action. Coming soon…honoring your gifts.
