Let’s talk about our bodies for a moment.
In our society we’ve been conditioned to look at our bodies as a utilitarian function and often a point of shame – too this, too that, not enough this, too much that.
Plus too many of us abuse our bodies – too much booze, maybe even drugs, too much food, or just the wrong kinds of foods. Then there’s exercise – none whatsoever, not enough, or for some people, way too much.
We fail to properly nourish and nurture our bodies.
When you consider it, taking good care of your body is really a matter of whether or not you value yourself enough to care for your body in the way you know it should be treated. The way it deserves to be treated to remain strong and healthy.
But let’s take that a step further and boil it down to a more spiritual essence…
What is your body really and where did it come from?
Is it just a collection of cells and bones and blood and muscles and whatever other terms you can’t recall from biology class? No, I think it’s more than that.
I believe that our bodies are the vessels that house our souls. These beautiful, unique, and precious souls, our very essence. Wonderful beings, rays of light broken off from the great light of the Universe. A part of God, sent off to live in the mortal world for a few short moments in all of time.
When you think of your body as a gift given by the Creator to house your divine and glorious soul, does that change anything? Does it make you think that perhaps you should cherish it, even just a little at first, until you get used to caring for yourself and make it your habit?
Maybe it’s time to have a conversation with yourself about where exactly it is you think this beautiful body of yours came from. And yes, I mean you. Your body is beautiful. With all of its luscious flaws. The gorgeous house and home to your glowing heart and soul.
Give your lovely body the tender loving care that you would give a gift delivered to you on the fluttering wings of angels. Because isn’t that really what it is?
