This evening I was texting a dear and wonderful friend with a laundry list of complaints about the things that had gone wrong in my day. Truly the only way to describe it with any degree of honesty and accuracy would be to ‘fess up and say that I was feeling sorry for myself.
Despite pointing that out to myself, the barrage continued.
Finally, after listening patiently and providing kind and wise counsel, my friend texted me and said, “Oh seriously, go to your room and turn on some loud music and just dance!”
She suggested “She’s So Mean” by Matchbox Twenty…
Really, what could I do, other than take her up on her advice? You can’t bitch and moan and ask for advice and not follow it. So I did. I played the song and danced it out, Grey’s Anatomy style!
Curls flying, arms flailing hither and yon, shaking my money maker like it was my job!
A couple of things about that…
- She’s So Mean is officially my new theme song. Watch out, boys!
- You just can’t be sad or angry or feel sorry for yourself when you’re dancing it out! Dancing it out and being sad or angry cannot exist in the same space in the universe. It’s a law of physics. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself!
So next time you’re feeling anything less than 100% awesome, dance it out! You’ll feel great and it’s a helluva lot cheaper than therapy!
This one’s for you, Brandi…
