Sometimes it’s easy to get yourself worked into a tizzy if you’re thinking, thinking, and rethinking about something. Commonly known as overthinking.
There are many reasons why we might overthink certain things, but if I had to hazard a guess, I would bet that most reasons stem from a place of fear. We are afraid of a particular situation, so we try and think our way to a better place. But usually it just lands us in the confused world of overthinkdom.
What would happen if we didn’t overthink things?
People might think less of us. Or in reality, they might not be thinking about us at all. Often we tend to catastrophize and imagine that others are all caught up in our inner turmoil when they are more likely to be caught up in their own thoughts.
Or perhaps a particular situation wouldn’t get hashed out immediately. My guess is that if the situation is urgent, it will get dealt with promptly. Otherwise, give it a rest and stop thinking about it. When we relinquish the frenzy, the answer or the best way to proceed often just pops into one’s head.
If we stop fretting and overthinking, our anxiety level will go down, allowing our natural creativity to take over, which will also help us to come to a natural solution or form a conclusion about how to proceed.
So maybe, just this once, take off your thinking cap and see what happens. It might be scary to just let go, but trust yourself to come up with a solution, even if you aren’t overthinking.
