What’s the one thing that you’re most afraid of in the world? Have you even identified it? Or does it lurk silently in the background of your life, cropping up from time to time, just often enough to hold you back in life?
Perhaps it’s time to name your fear. Really put a name and a face to the thing that you fear most. Because only when you’ve truly called out your fear can you begin to hack away at the getting beyond that fear.
So if we’re hiding from our biggest fear or our fear is conveniently hiding itself from us with only occasional flare-ups, how do we call it by name?
Well, begin by asking yourself, what do I avoid? What action or activity or even words do I avoid? Sometimes that can be a clue. Or sometimes your mind will just block it out. I never used to be able to remember the term “self-sabotage” when that’s what I was actually doing!
Or, around what thing in our life do we always make excuses? Or justify? Such as, “Oh, I really didn’t want to go to Europe anyway,” said no one ever, except for someone who was afraid.
Avoidant behavior is often indicative of something we’re hiding from or afraid of. Begin to embrace those things that you previously avoided.
Let’s each figure out the thing that really scares us. Because getting over that fear might just be the thing that sets us free to live an amazing and full life.
So I’m curious…what did you do today that scares you? Share your story in the comments below.
