Sometimes you know that a person is going through a difficult time. Even if they aren’t showing it. Just by knowing what’s going on in their life, they’ve got to be in pain.
Often when people are suffering, they pull back or put a happy face on. And sometimes when that happens it’s easier for us to pull back too and assume that they’re handling everything and just doing fine.
But don’t. Don’t walk away from them. That’s when they need you the most. Even if it’s just to be with them while both of you pretend that nothing is wrong.
Recently I wrote about connections. The feeling of closeness you have with someone just because. Or perhaps you don’t have a connection. And if you don’t have a connection, I suggested you don’t belabor it, but nurture the close feelings with the people with whom it happens easily and organically.
But on the other hand, if you know that someone has gone through something that would bring the average person to their knees, just try to be there for them. They won’t always let you in. But sometimes just being there is enough.
