This week I was on the receiving end of some kindness.
I went to parent-teacher conferences for my 12-year-old son and was so blown away by the things the teachers were saying. Good things.
They all told me he is an amazing kid and that he’s a joy to have in class, and how thrilled they are with his inquisitive nature and love of learning.
While it may sound like I’m bragging (well, maybe a little), it’s not like that. It’s more that it was such a warm and resounding vote of confidence for me as a parent. A single parent. Because I’ve been doing it mostly on my own for the past three years, and it meant so much to me to hear how well he’s doing and what a fine young man he’s becoming.
Of course that’s all on him and the good choices that he’s making. But it made me realize I must be doing something right as a parent.
I’m guessing that the teachers were just telling me their truth, not realizing what an impact it made on my life. But it did.
Just goes to show that you never really know how much your small acts of kindness will affect a person, help a person, or even change a person’s life. But trust me, they will.
Sending special thoughts to all of the teachers out there who are making a positive difference in the lives of so many kids. And sometimes even the parents. You are making a difference in the world. Thank you.
