Ever remember your parents saying something along these lines…”If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump off too?!”
If you were ever a teenager, I’m guessing you heard words just like this. Now that you’re a mature adult, I bet you have a greater appreciation for your parents’ folksy wisdom.
In a society that values “the norm,” I have a deep appreciation for people who have taken a stand and decide to live life on their own terms.
While I don’t think there’s much value in being a rebel without a cause, small rebellions are fun ways to express your unique spirit. Like wearing funky socks. Or being the only one in your uptight office who knows you have a tramp stamp tattoo. (No, I do not have a tattoo. I can only claim the funky socks!)
The point is, small rebellions aren’t really that important, nor should they be. But why follow the pack? Express yourself! Who gives a crap if anyone likes your leopard print pants or henna tattoo or new red hair?
Small rebellions. Grab a couple.
I mean seriously…would you jump off a bridge just because your friend did?
I didn’t think so.
