Are you one of those types of people who is always waiting for the other shoe to fall? Be honest.
I’ll tell you truthfully that I am. I get scared when things are going too well. Even though I force myself to be a positive person and look on the bright side, I’m secretly always waiting for the other shoe to fall.
Let’s just set the record straight. The other shoe will eventually fall. Always. Something bad is always lurking around the corner.
Sound negative? It’s not. It’s just life.
The other shoe will fall. Sometimes more than one shoe. Occasionally we will hit a point in our life when we are bombarded with bad times – many shoes falling all at the same time. That’s just life.
The question is, should we spend our lives anticipating the negative stuff that will eventually happen? Should we spend our precious time obsessing about what bad times might hit or when? Or should we do our best to enjoy the good times and live our lives to the fullest?
My vote is for the latter.
Life is too damn short to spend it waiting for the bad shit to happen. Something undesirable will eventually happen to every single one of us. Do we know what it will be? No. Do we really ever imagine the way things actually unfold? Generally, no. Mostly life is full of surprises, both good and bad.
So how about if we take those lulls between the big and little tragedies in life and live our best and fullest lives in every single moment?
Is it scary to let go of the fear of the other shoe falling? Yes, it is. Maybe you’re even feeling a little bit superstitious, like if you let got of the waiting for the other shoe to fall, it will fall bigger and sooner. That’s just your mind trying to keep you in the comfort zone you’ve created for yourself. Change is scary and uncomfortable, but it needs to happen if we’re going to commit to living life to the fullest.
And let me let you in on a little secret…when the other shoe falls, it may still hurt like hell, but when you develop an unparalleled zest for life you will begin to bounce back a little bit quicker. Because you will be spending the bulk of your life in a very good place and you’ll want to return to that place. That goodness will become your new comfort zone. I can’t think of any better place to be!
So let’s stop waiting for the other shoe to fall and commit to living life joyously and to the fullest. I am making that commitment to myself. Are you?
