Today I spoke with a friend that I haven’t talked to in a while. We’re not really even that close of friends. We talk maybe a couple times a year. But I always enjoy chatting with him because when I talk, he really listens, and he asks me about me and how I’m doing and what I’ve been up to. And even more than that, he’s pretty effusive and open with his feelings, and isn’t afraid to say that he really enjoys talking with me and that he misses me. And that feels good.
It got me thinking…I want to be more like that. I want to be more open and tell people how much I enjoy them and how much I treasure having them in my life, even if we don’t get to spend that much time together.
We live in a society in which this kind of openness isn’t always valued, and sometimes you may even be looked at as weird. But actually, in this disconnected world we often find ourselves in, I feel it’s warm and charming.
I want to be present in my relationships and nurture those that are meaningful to me. So I’m going to follow my friend’s lead and start to share more openly with people.
How about you?
